There are now just 9 teams in Region D, Class 5, with the 2023/24-2026/37 VHSL realignment and reclassification. (Updated June 14, 2023)

The Region is built around the six-team Potomac District, the Class 5 Loudoun County teams. It adds the two Class 5 Commonwealth District teams, Massaponax and Riverbend. It makes room for Harrisonburg, a Class 5 school which plays in the Class 3 Valley District.

Lightridge moved over from the Class 4 Dulles District to become a Class 5 Potomac District school.
